Our Learning Theme for Spring 1 is...

Traditional Tales

In this half term we will be focusing on the specific area of learning 'Literacy'.

In this theme, we will develop our knowledge of traditional tales. We will learn rhymes, songs and phrases to develop our love for reading and speaking. Children will learn about the five key concepts about print; print has meaning, it can have different purposes, we read English text from left to right and from top to bottom, names of the different parts of a book, page sequencing. Use some of their print and letter knowledge in their early writing. For example: writing a pretend shopping list that starts at the top of the page; writing ‘m’ for mummy.

We follow a thematic approach to learning ensuring children have a variety of learning opportunities but also ensuring all areas of learning are covered to support their development of knowledge and skills throughout the year, building upon existing knowledge from Nursery. We also follow children’s interest, throughout the day supporting children in provision with areas of learning linking to our themes but then supporting where children want to take their own learning and curiosity
