Pupil Premium

It is the intention of all staff at Martin Frobisher Infant School that all children make the best possible progress and achieve the highest standards irrespective of their background or the challenges they may face. We all agree that there is a collective responsibility for addressing disadvantage and that the mitigation of deprivation in any form is high quality education and quality first teaching. The focus of our pupil premium strategy is to support disadvantaged pupils to achieve this goal, including ensuring good progress for those children who are higher attainers on entry to the school.

Pupil premium funding is allocated to:

  • Pupils who are recorded as eligible for free school meals, or have been recorded as eligible in the past 6 years (referred to as Ever 6 FSM)
  • Children previously looked after by a local authority or other state care, including children adopted from state care or equivalent from outside England and Wales

Pupil premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils, and schools do not have to spend pupil premium so that it solely benefits pupils who meet the funding criteria. It can be used:

  • to support other pupils with identified needs, such as those who have or have had a social worker, or who act as a carer
  • for whole class interventions which will also benefit non-disadvantaged pupils

Each year we analyse the individual needs of our children who have received the additional funding and then plan for the monies to be spent in the most appropriate way. We use up to date research from the EEF (Education Endowment Foundation) to find the best ways to use the money to best support our children (https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/using-pupil-premium
